Life cycle of machine safety

The RASWin tool provides the means to consistently manage the entire lifecycle of security, including risk assessment, functional requirements, security system design, verification and validation.

Risk assessment is carried out in a series of logical steps that systematically allow the dangers associated with the machines to be assessed. This is followed, where necessary, by the risk reduction as described in EN 12100-1:2012 standard. When this process is repeated, the iterative procedure eliminates hazards, if possible, and implements security measures.

RASWin allows the quick application of the method by changing the initial quantitative risk value at each step as the necessary corrective measures are integrated to cancel or reduce such risk.

EN ISO 13849 and IEC 62061 standards describe the design recommendations for the command system parts regarding machine safety. Their purpose is not to describe how to perform safety circuits but to apply functional safety in the design and construction of the machines.

The concept is applied in order to reduce systematic flaws in the conception, design, construction, commissioning and maintenance of a machine.

Raswin offers us a work methodology to perform the safety specifications, automatically generating a validation methodology before the machine is commissioned and a machine verification procedure during its use.

The maintenance of a machine involves, among other activities, the inspection and verification of all items that are part of the command system relating to safety, warning signs, etc., in order to avoid a reduction in the machine’s safety level.

EN ISO 13849 and IEC 62061 standards include, among others, recommendations to verify or validate the correct application of the safety principles and the proper use of proven components.

Raswin offers a simple work methodology to periodically check the safety status, allowing preventive maintenance to be carried out on those parts to avoid compromising the machine’s safety.

The verification and validation phases before commissioning allow us to minimize deviations due to errors in the specification, design, set-up and programming or configuration which compromise the machine’s safety. The success of these tasks depends directly on the complexity of the machine or group of machines.

Raswin offers us a simple work methodology to validate the corrective measures and safety features before commissioning the machine based on all previous phases of risk assessment and safety specifications.

The maintenance and improvement phase is constant in industry, and the initial certification of machinery must be maintained and changes managed correctly.

The platform formed by RASWIN, ISM and SLM ensures machinery certification remains up to date and change management is correctly applied.

The company making the modifications is often not the original manufacturer of the machine and it must perform a risk assessment and estimate the PL of the existing installation and perform a new validation. Raswin will enable you to produce projects and to modify and verify them both quickly and effectively.
